NMES and sEMG in Dysphagia Management: The Guardian Way®
Adult Focused Course
Certified for 1.35 ASHA CEUs
The Guardian Way® is a fundamentally different approach to dysphagia treatment that combines NMES (neuromuscular electrical stimulation) with sEMG (surface electromyography) biofeedback for objective and quantifiable outcomes in an engaging, interactive format.
At Spectramed®, our mission is to lead the way in the advancement of rehabilitation tools to restore function to the highest level possible to improve the quality of life for all patients. We believe clinicians and patients alike should have access to the most comprehensive therapy suite in a global market.
The Guardian Way® is a program designed to train speech-language pathologists in a protocol, which utilizes fundamental electrophysiological principles of (NMES) combined with (sEMG) that have been used successfully for over thirty years in neurorehabilitation and applies these principles to the treatment of dysphagia across the lifespan. Developed by expert speech-language pathologists, Guardian® Therapy is a fundamentally different approach for the treatment of dysphagia. Guardian® Therapy uses NMES and sEMG to promote improved strength, timing and reeducation of swallowing musculature.
Participants will understand and learn how to apply the fundamental principles of NMES and sEMG for the treatment of dysphagia as independent entities and as the therapeutic fusion of ETS which combines NMES and sEMG biofeedback. The price of the course includes the latest device for not only a tremendous value of CEUs plus state of the art equipment but also for the immediate practical application of the Guardian Way® the next time you treat patients!
The course will teach underlying key scientific principles including electrophysiology, neuroplasticity, neuromuscular retraining and biofeedback, anatomy/physiology, etiological concerns, efficacy data supporting treatment outcomes, details of treatment, including hands-on practice, and practical considerations. The impact of NMES treatment on cortical re-organization from pre/post neural imaging data will be presented. An analysis of the historical and current evidence will also be shared. This highly efficacious treatment technique is safe, affordable, painless and can prevent the occurrence of deadly complications. The additional
component of sEMG biofeedback provide clear objective, normative date for evidence based practice and supportive documentation for reimbursement. The use of gaming technology through bluetooth apps provides an interactive, engaging format for optimal physiological change. The goal in the rehabilitation of dysphagia should be to restore swallow function to the highest level possible in order to prevent further complications and promote optimal quality of life. The Guardian Way® NMES and sEMG/biofeedback are excellent tools for the clinician with hopes of effecting a positive change in swallow function.
Our course is offered via webinar format with both visual and audio components. If you would like to request accommodations, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 1-800-643-1917.
If it becomes necessary for Spectramed, LLC to cancel or reschedule a course, the participant will be contacted via email or phone and offered a full refund or a transfer to another course. When the participant opts for the full refund of the course cancelled or rescheduled by Spectramed, LLC, the participant must return equipment and any training materials in new, re-saleable condition prior to receiving the refund. Return postage will be pre-paid by Spectramed, LLC.
Participants may cancel a course registration up until 14 days prior to the course date to receive a refund or transfer to another course. Cancellations received after the 14-day window are not eligible for a refund. Refunds will be issued after the participant has returned all training materials and equipment in new, re-saleable condition. Participant is responsible for return shipping costs.
