This course will focus on dementia types, genetic mutations, prevention, how to stage dementia accurately, symptom management and the evaluation and treatment of dysphagia in this population. We will discuss all forms of progressive dementia and how they impact deglutition. Commonly dysphagia is defined by the symptom of aspiration whereas this session will discuss in more detail on oral care, dehydration, malnutrition and decision making for feeding tubes, end of life topics and quality of life.
